Ortolani's Test Orthopedic Special Test

What is it used for?

  • Reducing a dislocated hip in newborns with Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip (DDH).

How to Perform

  • Position: Infant supine.
  • Action: Flex hips/knees to 90°. Gently Abduct the hip while lifting the greater trochanter anteriorly.

Interpretation of Results

  • Positive Test: A palpable "clunk" is felt as the femoral head slides back into the acetabulum (Reduction).

Diagnostic Accuracy

  • Sensitivity: 66% (declines after 3 months of age).
