Craig's Test (Ryder Method) Orthopedic Special Test

What is it used for?

  • Measuring Femoral Anteversion (internal twist of the femur).

How to Perform

  • Position: Patient lies prone with knee flexed to 90°.
  • Action: Palpate the greater trochanter while rotating the hip. Find the point where the trochanter is most prominent laterally (parallel to table).

Interpretation of Results

  • Normal: 8-15° of internal rotation.
  • Anteversion: >15° (Associated with "toeing in").
  • Retroversion: <8° (Associated with "toeing out").

Diagnostic Accuracy

  • Highly accurate when compared to intraoperative measurements.
