What is it used for?
- Measuring Femoral Anteversion (internal twist of the femur).
How to Perform
- Position: Patient lies prone with knee flexed to 90°.
- Action: Palpate the greater trochanter while rotating the hip. Find the point where the trochanter is most prominent laterally (parallel to table).
Interpretation of Results
- Normal: 8-15° of internal rotation.
- Anteversion: >15° (Associated with "toeing in").
- Retroversion: <8° (Associated with "toeing out").
Diagnostic Accuracy
- Highly accurate when compared to intraoperative measurements.
